Entry to the Junior School
At Eltham College Junior School the main entry point is at 7+ into Year 3 and form groups are kept deliberately small with between 18 to 22 pupils in a form. There may also be an opportunity for boys to enter at 8+, 9+ and 10+ if places become available. Boys come from many different prep and infant schools around south east London and beyond.
Once in the Junior School, the normal path is for all pupils to progress seamlessly into the Senior School. For the majority of junior pupils there will be no need to sit the 11+ entrance examination if they have made satisfactory progress during their time here. The boys use many of the facilities in the Senior School and are taught by many of the Senior School teachers so that during Year 6 they are stretched in an appropriate way to ensure progression to the Senior School is seamless.
We encourage you to come and visit us at one of our Open Days before registering for entrance assessment and to find out more.
Additional admissions information can be found in our 7+ Entry Procedure booklet here or below.

Tours are available of the Senior School facilities used by the Junior School boys.
The morning will end with refreshments in the Junior School Hall and a further opportunity to talk to staff.
Junior School Tours
Tours of the Junior School during a school day are available on request and can be booked via the Junior School Secretary, Mrs Shea. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to book your tour.
Scholarships and Bursaries
There are no scholarships available for the Junior School years but a number of scholarships are available at age 11 for entry to the Senior School. The Junior School has an excellent record for achieving such awards. On average, over recent years, 10 Junior School pupils per year have received offers of academic, sport or music scholarships; click here for more information.
Registration for entry to Eltham College may be made at any time before the relevant deadline and a registration form is included in the prospectus pack or available to download here. The registration fee is non-returnable and acceptance of registration does not constitute the offer of a place.
Eltham College is one of the leading independent day schools for boys in the UK. Academic standards are high and entrance is by selection based on academic merit and on an assessment of the pupil’s likely positive contribution to the school.
At 7+ entry, candidates are assessed in English (including an element of Verbal Reasoning), Mathematics and Reading.
For 8+, 9+ and 10+ entry candidates sit examinations in English, Reading, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning.
Further details about the process are available upon request from the Registrar. All candidates must register with the school prior to their assessments. A reference is also requested from the candidate’s current school.
The Activity Morning takes place a few days before the assessment days. Registered candidates are invited into the Junior School to enjoy a carousel of fun activities designed to familiarise them with the College and allow them to meet other candidates in order to ease any anxieties ahead of their assessment day.
On accepting a place, parents are required to pay a deposit and sign a contract which outlines the standard terms and conditions under which their son is accepted as a pupil at Eltham College. Offer of a place is also subject to satisfactory references from the candidate’s current school.
