Admission to the Sixth Form

Entry to the Sixth Form

Eltham College has a co-educational Sixth Form and we welcome registrations from both girls and boys from state or independent schools across London and Kent. Most students in the Sixth Form take four subjects and details of the Sixth Form Curriculum can be found here. Exceptional musicians, and elite sportsmen and women may be permitted to start on three A levels to allow them greater time for rehearsals and training. Scientists and mathematicians may start on five A levels.

We encourage all potential candidates to come and visit us before registering to sit the Entrance Examination. For details of Open Events please click here.

Attending the Sixth Form Open Evening

  • The Sixth Form Open Evening is tailored to prospective Sixth Formers and their parents.

  • Registration and welcome will be in King George’s Hall at 7pm.

  • You will hear from the Headmaster and current Sixth Form students about life at Eltham College and the opportunities available.

  • You will then have the opportunity to listen to departmental presentations where you can meet the subject staff and find out more information.

Sixth Form Tours

Tours are held throughout Michaelmas Term during a normal school day. Please contact the Registrar to book your tour.

Scholarships and Bursaries

In addition to the Academic Scholarships, further significant scholarships are available in Sport, Music, Art and Drama for Sixth Form.

Eltham College has a Bursary programme for people requiring financial support and, for Sixth Form students only, a Leverhulme Trust Scholarship offering means tested financial support for children of Chemists, Grocers or Travelling Salesmen.

Full details of the Scholarships and Bursaries available can be found here.

Registration for entry to Eltham College may be made at any time before the relevant deadline and a registration form is included in the prospectus pack or available to download here. The registration fee is non-returnable and acceptance of registration does not constitute the offer of a place.

Entry Requirements and Assessment

Eltham College is one of the leading independent day schools in the UK. Academic standards are high and the minimum standard for entry to the Sixth Form is six A grades at GCSE. Although, with the competition for places, in practice the standard is likely to be considerably higher.

All external candidates for the Sixth Form also have an Entrance Examination, sitting papers in two subjects of their choice and a computer adaptive Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning assessment. Soon after the written examination, candidates for whom a place is being considered will be invited to interview. Places are allocated very shortly after the examination process.

All candidates must register with the College prior to sitting the examinations. A reference is also requested from the candidate’s current school including a statement of predicted GCSE grades.

Offers and Options

Once candidates have accepted an offer from us, we invite them in for an Options Evening where they can meet Heads of Department for advice in selecting subjects to study at A level.

Details of the current Sixth Form curriculum can be viewed here.

Parent Contract

On accepting a place, parents are required to pay a deposit and sign a contract which outlines the standard terms and conditions under which their son/daughter is accepted as a pupil at Eltham College. Offer of a place is also subject to satisfactory references from the candidate’s current school.
