The Headmaster and Governors have announced the capital development plans for Eltham College over the next few years by launching the Centenary Campaign. The governors commissioned a space audit of the school’s facilities. The conclusions highlighted the growing pressure on teaching space throughout the Senior School. In particular the need for:
- an extra Biology laboratory
- an increased number of Mathematics and Modern Foreign Languages classrooms,
- a permanent residence for Latin,
- a larger purpose-built Sixth Form Centre.
These proposals are not an indication that the school is going to grow in size, but are a response to the current need.
We are also establishing a permanent Bursary Foundation to secure the provision of means-tested bursaries.
Plans, produced by Levitt Bernstein, have been received enthusiastically both by our neighbours and the Bromley planning department. We are delighted that we now have over £5.0 million pledged and donated towards the buildings.
Work on Phase 1, the Science Block extension, was completed in summer 2014. We hope that, with help from the Eltham College Community, we will be able to begin work on the next phase in the very near future.
We do hope that you will be as excited as we are about this next phase in Eltham College’s development, as we continue to encourage enthusiastic, enquiring and informed minds which we hope will allow each individual pupil to develop his or her own strengths and talents.
Further details can be found on the Elthamians website explaining how you can become involved.
