Hockey is well established at Eltham College since its introduction in 1998. Indoor Hockey is played during Michaelmas Term and Outdoor Hockey during Lent Term.
The school competes with top teams from across the country. 11 outdoor sides are regularly fielded to compete against the top Hockey schools such Langley Park, Whitgift, Trinity, Kent College, King's Canterbury and Kingston Grammar School. The school plays a mix of minis hockey and 11-a-side games with the junior teams, but concentrates solely on 11-a-side from U14.
For Indoor Hockey we have regularly reached the semi-final stage of the South Indoor Finals in all age groups which is quite some achievement considering the strength of the south east region.
For Outdoor Hockey the College enters all age groups into the Kent County Cup and regularly competes on county finals day. In 2016 the U18s won the Kent Cup.
The senior squad has enjoyed several international tours in recent years visiting Austrailia Greece, South Africa, Holland and Germany. The next tour is planned for South Africa in 2017.
The school actively encourages representing the County and in recent years has produced county players across the age groups. Recent players have also gone on to regional representation with numerous pupils having represented South England teams. Old Boys Links
The school is strongly linked with its Old Boys team, Blackheath and Old Elthamians Hockey club, who train and play on the school site in the evenings and at weekends. The current BOEHC 1st XI squad, who in the South Premier League, have eight staff members and current or former pupils playing for them. There is also a thriving junior section of the club which caters for both boys and girls from seven years of age. This link has aided the development of hockey at the College and plays a vital role in strengthening the school’s links with the wider community. Read more about the club here.
