Sport Overview
Sport is central to life at Eltham College. Pupils participate in a wide and varied PE and Games programme which focuses on the development of fundamental motor skills, development of physical literacy and to create a lifelong interest in Sport and Leisure. Participation in co-curricular Sport is positively encouraged at all levels and there are various practices and clubs that take place at lunchtime and after school that the pupils can engage in.

Eltham College boasts strong fixture lists in all of its major sports, competing against nationally renowned schools who can be up to three times their size in numbers of pupils.

In addition, there are multiple additional sports to take part in, either as part of PE lessons, through the co-curricular programme or in House activities.
 

Facilities

Eltham College is an oasis in south east London and benefits from having almost 70 acres of outdoor space comprising numerous rugby pitches and cricket squares, a floodlit all-weather hockey pitch and rugby training area, multi-use games area, tennis courts, cricket nets and a grass athletics track in the summer. For a medium sized school we are fortunate indeed to have such a range of excellent facilities.

The students also benefit from the on-site Eric Liddell Sports Centre which houses a sport hall with indoor cricket nets, 25m six lane swimming pool, dance studio and Fitness Suite/Conditioning Room with the latest cardio and resistance machinery.
 

Sport Scholarship and HigH Performance AthLete Programme (HPAP)

The Sport Scholarship and High Performance Athlete Programme is designed to assist talented sports performers maximise and fulfil their sporting potential whilst achieving academic success. The aim is to provide individually tailored practical support to pupils that are both specific to their sport and academic commitments.
 

Sporting Success

Rugby:

The school runs 15 teams in the senior school 16 teams in the junior school. We are involved in a very competitive fixture list which includes Brighton College and St John’s Leatherhead. The 1st XV recently reached the last 32 in the country in the Nat West Cup and our lower school teams regularly feature in the latter stages of the Kent Cups at U14 and U15 level. In addition to the 15-a-side fixtures the school also plays Sevens in Lent Term and our U15s are the current Kent Champions. Eltham College pupils often go on to represent Kent and the school currently has thirteen boys in the various age group teams and also two boys in the Saracens RFC Academy.

Hockey:

The Hockey teams have excelled in regular season games for many years now and we regularly qualify for county finals days at U14, U16 and U18 level. Our 1st XI are the current Kent champions and our U16s and U14s also reached the Kent Cup finals day in 2016. The school will put out 12 sides on a full Saturday block fixture against strong opposition including King’s School Canterbury and Caterham School. Several of our players have gained representative honours and we currently have ten boys in the County set up.

Cricket:

Eltham College has a very proud and strong tradition of developing gifted cricketers. The school will field ten sides in a full Saturday block fixture versus prestigious opposition including Dulwich College and Caterham. In the past few years there have been numerous county cup wins at various age groups and our U12s are currently the Kent Cup holders. Eltham College produce a large pool of district, county and regional standard players with four current pupils involved in Kent age group teams.
