The Junior School Library

The Junior School Library is an excellent teaching resource here at Eltham College. The children enjoy using it for both pleasure and to extend their learning. The library is open every lunchtime for the boys to use on a rota. There are Year 6 helpers and a parent in the library during this period.

There are many fictional stories for the boys to choose from, including classics such as ‘The Wind in the Willows’ and ‘Just William’ and more modern choices like ‘Horrid Henry’ and ‘Beast Quest’. There is also a wide selection of non-fiction books, for example books on the Tudors and Egyptians, books about different countries around the world and, our most popular, books on sport.

The library is also available to teachers and pupils to use during lessons. Each class may have designated time in the library to enjoy the resources, borrow books and search various topics.

The library underwent a lot of work during the 2014-2015 year (read more) and the hope is to extend the library, introduce ‘ebooks’ and include space for independent learning in the future.
