Entry to the Senior School at 11+
The majority of boys joining Eltham College Senior School enter in Year 7. Successful candidates will join the Eltham College Junior School boys who progress seamlessly into the Senior School. We usually take 40 to 50 external boys at age 11 from both state primary and private preparatory schools in London and Kent to make a year group consisting of four forms with between 21 and 23 boys in each.
We encourage all potential candidates to come and visit us before registering to sit the entrance examination. For details of Open Days and Visitor Mornings please click here.
Scholarships and Bursaries
Academic, Sport, Music and Art Scholarships are available for 11+ entry as well as means-tested financial bursaries for families who may not be able to afford the fees. Full details can be found here.
Applications for Scholarships and Bursaries should be indicated at the time of registration on the Registration Form.
Registration for entry to Eltham College may be made at any time before the relevant deadline and a registration form is included in the prospectus pack or available to download here. The registration fee is non-returnable and acceptance of registration does not constitute the offer of a place.
Eltham College is one of the leading independent day schools for boys in the UK. Academic standards are high and entrance is by selection based on academic merit and on an assessment of the pupil’s likely positive contribution to the College.
All external candidates at 11+ will sit an Entrance Examination and boys will be interviewed by members of staff on the same day. During the day, prospective pupils also have the opportunity to sample one of the many activities that are on offer. All candidates will automatically be considered for Academic Scholarships but there are further assessments for boys who pass the academic threshold and who wish to be considered for Music, Sport and Art Scholarships.
External candidates will take entrance papers in English and Mathematics as well as sitting a computer adaptive Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning assessment. Sample papers of English and Mathematics can be downloaded here:
All candidates must register with the College prior to sitting the examinations. A reference is also requested from the candidate’s current school.
Towards the end of Michaelmas Term and in the early part of Lent Term, a significant number of registered candidates will be invited to attend an afternoon of lessons. This will give us an opportunity to judge their aptitude for our teaching and learning style and for them to get a real taste of what it is like to be a pupil at Eltham College.
The Headmaster is available to meet with parents who are considering a place throughout the Michaelmas and Lent Terms.
On accepting a place, parents are required to pay a deposit and sign a contract which outlines the standard terms and conditions under which their son is accepted as a pupil at Eltham College. Offer of a place is also subject to satisfactory references from the candidate’s current school.
