Junior School (Year 3 – 6) Uniform

  • School blazer with sewn-in badge as supplied by Stevensons
  • Shorts: Junior School boys are expected to wear plain mid-grey shorts with Eltham College knee high socks (available from Stevensons). Many parents find that shorts are highly practical for active, growing boys.
  • Trousers: During colder weather between the October half term and Easter, any Junior School boy may wear grey trousers. To reflect their greater maturity, Year 6 boys may wear trousers all year round if they wish. Socks under trousers must be plain grey, navy blue or black (not white or pale, no patterns).
  • Shirt – white (short sleeves if desired) NB no T shirts with loud or visible motifs or lettering to be worn beneath the regulation shirts.
  • Pullover – Eltham College pullover as supplied by Stevensons
  • Shoes – plain black leather (no canvas, no suede, no cord, no trainers, no metal attachments, no industrial style, no boots). Black laces only. Must be kept clean.
  • Tie – orange stripe Junior School tie available from Stevensons
  • School Bag – School bags should be navy or black without large, colourful logos. An optional Eltham College school backpack is available from Stevensons.
  • Badges (metal lapel badges and other insignia) – only prefects’ or other specifically authorised (by the Headmaster) badges are allowed.
  • Jewellery – no jewellery of any sort including studs, sleepers and finger rings.
  • Hair should not be dyed, highlighted or unnaturally coloured, and should be tidy and not unacceptably long (cut above the collar) or excessively short.

Junior School (Year 3 – 6) Sportswear

PE Kit

  • Eltham College items as supplied by Stevensons: Cream cricket/PE shirt, white shorts
  • Additional required items: white socks, trainers, navy fitted “jammer” swim shorts, goggles and towel.

Games Kit

Eltham College items as supplied by Stevensons: Junior reversible games shirt (house colour inside), rugby shorts, games socks, tracksuit top and tracksuit trousers

Additional required items: Rugby boots (grass), trainers

Additional items of sports kit are available but are not compulsory: including an Eltham College hoody for colder days. Stevensons also hold stock of useful sports accessory items including baselayers (white long-sleeved tees, navy baselayer shorts and/or leggings), sports kit bags and hats.

If your son is selected for a cricket team in Year 5 or 6 he will need Eltham College cricket whites (trousers) and either a sleeveless or long-sleeved cricket jumper (as supplied by Stevensons). Please wait to be advised whether this is required.

Junior School Outdoor Wear

Outdoor wear must be coloured plain dark navy blue or grey. Raincoats, overcoats, trench and duffle coats, anoraks and cagoules are permitted, providing they are clean and in good order. These must have no plastic or leather patches, no tabs or brass buttons, and the lining must be unobtrusive. A navy school coat is available from Stevensons.

Cyclists may wear on their way to school suitable protective clothing over their uniform, including fluorescent bands, but must, of course, wear their uniform into school buildings.

Scarves must be plain navy or black.

Dark coloured gloves.

Coats, gloves and scarves are for outdoor wear only.

Senior School  (Year 7 – 11) Uniform

  • Mid-grey trousers (not light-grey or near-black).
  • Eltham College blazer with sewn-in badge (as supplied by Stevensons).
  • Eltham College pullover (as supplied by Stevensons)
  • Socks – plain grey, navy blue or black (not white or pale, no patterns).
  • Shirt – white (short sleeves if desired) NB no T shirts with loud or visible motifs or lettering to be worn beneath the regulation shirts.
  • Shoes – plain black leather (no canvas, no suede, no cord, no trainers, no metal attachments, no industrial style, no boots). Black laces only. Must be kept clean.
  • Tie – House tie, or tie specifically authorised (by the Headmaster) and awarded for school sporting or cultural activities.
  • Navy Eltham College Design Technology lab coat (as supplied by Stevensons) for all students in Year 7 to 9
  • White laboratory coat for A level Chemistry students in Y12/13 (Sixth Form). (The Science Department will supply labcoats where appropriate for other year groups).

Additional items of sports kit are available but are not compulsory: including an Eltham College contact top and midlayer, and House coloured tech tees. You may wish to wait and see whether your son wants/needs these items before purchasing. Stevensons also hold stock of useful sports accessory items including baselayers (white long-sleeved tees, navy baselayer shorts and/or leggings), kit bags and hats.

Cricket

If your son is selected for a cricket team he will need Eltham College cricket whites (trousers) and either a sleeveless or long-sleeved cricket jumper (as supplied by Stevensons). Please wait to be advised whether this is required.

Year 11 – 13 Senior teams

If your son is selected to represent the College in a Senior team his coach will place kit orders directly with Stevensons on the team’s behalf. The costs of these items will be added to your termly bill if required. In such circumstances parents will be notified in advance.

Sixth Form Uniform

Sixth Form Boys

  • Pullover – plain grey V neck or school regulation.
  • Socks – plain grey, navy blue or black (not white or pale, no patterns).
  • Shirt – white (short sleeves if desired) NB no T shirts with loud or visible motifs or lettering to be worn beneath the regulation shirts.
  • Shoes – plain black leather (no canvas, no suede, no cord, no trainers, no metal attachments, no industrial style, no boots). Black laces only. Must be kept clean.
  • Sixth Formers may wear a plain navy blazer as an alternative to a dark grey, navy or black suit (NB pin stripes are not acceptable).
  • The blazers should be worn with mid-grey trousers and white shirts.
  • White laboratory coat (not nylon) for those studying Chemistry or Biology.
  • A Sixth Form or Colours tie may be worn instead of the House tie.
  • Art apron (optional).
  • White woodwork apron (optional).
  • Jewellery – no jewellery of any sort including studs, sleepers and finger rings.
  • Hair should not be dyed, highlighted or unnaturally coloured, and should be tidy and not unacceptably long (cut above the collar) or excessively short.

Sixth Form Girls

  • Suits may be black, dark grey or navy (NB pin stripes are not acceptable).
  • The suit may be of any formal design with a skirt of a length no shorter than 3″ above knee. The skirt should be made of a suit material (not cotton) and must not have a high split.
  • Girls may also wear trousers of a suit material. Both skirt and trousers must be either part of the same suit as the jacket, or not be of a noticeably different material to the jacket. Cropped trousers (cut to the calf) are not acceptable but trousers cut to the ankle can be worn.
  • The blouse should be a plain white blouse with a collar without a low neckline. If the neckline of the blouse is too low then a white camisole should be worn under the blouse.
  • A plain black, dark grey or navy jumper may be worn.
  • Natural or dark coloured tights should be worn with a skirt, and should be plain.
  • Shoes should be of a formal, work style and should be black or navy.
  • Art apron (optional).
  • White woodwork apron (optional).
  • Jewellery is not allowed except plain ear studs. No more than one ear stud may be worn on either ear. No finger rings.
  • Make-up, if used, should be discreet.
  • Only clear, not coloured, nail varnish may be worn.
  • Hair, if coloured, should be a natural colour. Highlights may be put in hair if they look natural.
  • A white laboratory coat (not nylon) is required for those girls studying Chemistry or Biology.

Sixth Form Sports Kit (compulsory items for those selected to represent school teams)

Boys

Rugby – Match shirt (supplied at the start of the season), Blue Elite Rugby shorts and blue and gold Rugby socks.

Hockey – Match shirt, white Hockey shorts and white and gold Hockey socks.

Cricket – Match shirt, Cricket whites

Optional extra kit – Technical tee, sleeveless technical tee, drill training top, tracksuit bottoms, House shirt, hooded top, Cricket jumper – either sleeveless or long sleeved, Cricket cap, blue base layers – top, shorts and leggings (Rugby/Hockey), white base layer top (Cricket), House Athletics vest, school Athletics/Cross-Country vest, training/gym vest, beefy tee, kit bag, rucksack, boot bag and beanie hat.

Girls

Netball – Netball shirt, Netball skort, Netball beefy sweater, elite training pants, baselayer and good quality trainers

General Sportswear – T-shirt, tracksuit trousers or shorts and footwear suitable for sport.

Music Concerts and Performances

Please note that the dress code for the majority of Eltham College (Senior School) concerts is dinner jackets (or very dark/black suits) with black bow tie and white shirt for boys and all black (long dresses) for girls.  If your child is asked to perform, please ensure that they have the appropriate concert dress.

Second-Hand Clothing

The Parent-Teacher Association organise a second-hand clothing sale on the first Thursday of every month throughout the academic year where school uniform (including dinner jackets) may be bought and sold. Please note that the standard College brand has been updated and new items are available to parents for the first time from the summer of 2017. Items in the previous style may be worn until summer 2019.
