Rugby report – 13 November

The 1st XV put in their best performance of the season on Wednesday but unfortunately it still wasn’t enough to overcome The Judd School. The side lost 21 – 15 after previously losing 27 – 0 in the first game of the season. It was an outstanding defensive display against a very strong and physically large side. Tries from Thompson and Zac Filmer and a conversion and penalty from Jacob Buckley brought the boys agonisingly close but they just couldn’t get across the line.

The Under 16A were unfortunate to suffer a narrow 19-14 defeat against Colfe’s School on Saturday. In wet conditions, Colfe’s scrum and lineout proved to be too strong and forced a number of handling errors. Strong performances from try scorers Ashley Sewell and Frankie Nella whilst much of the tough unseen work fell to Zaki Boudjemaa. Well done to Conrad Scrivener for stepping up as Captain in place of injured James Biss.

The Under 15A team played at Colfe’s School on Saturday morning in difficult conditions after heavy overnight rain. Playing down a steep slope, our forwards dominated possession and made good progress against a stubborn defence. All our points were scored in the first half. Two scores from forward drives and one resulting from an excellent kick downfield from James Bush, gathered by James Roberts and scored by James Lambton. The second half was more challenging, but our defence held firm. The final score was 17 – 0 to Eltham College.

The Under 15B team played solid attacking rugby during a wet and error strewn game at Colfe’s School. Tries from Damir Kayani, Philip Cartin, Robbie Crouch, Jack Millar and Ben Mirchandani led to a well-deserved 0-31 victory.

The Under 14A team continued their preparation for the Kent Cup Semi-Final as they swept aside Colfe’s in a largely one-sided game. The 50-5 scoreline was spot on as the boys ran in some superb tries linking backs and forwards together to great effect. Lawrence Coleman was the star of the show with three superb tries to his name.

The Under 14B team had a thriller against Colfe’s, level at 5 all for most of the match. A strong run from David Low broke the deadlock followed by a quick succession of tries from Aarin Patel and Benjy Davis. The final score was 24-5.

The Under 12A team put in their best performance this season against Colfe’s School on Friday afternoon. They set a high pace which their opponents couldn’t keep up with and subsequently came away with a 45-0 victory.

The Under 12B team put in an excellent performance away at Colfe’s on Friday afternoon winning by 7 tries to 4. The side made a quick start with Will Stone and Diego Golsby winning a lot of loose ball in the forwards. Oliver Harris scored a third try following excellent build up play. Eltham were held up over the line a couple of times the team got the try to level the match before scoring three more in the final five minutes.

The Under 12C team won 14-0. The team passed and tackled well, without conceding.

The Under 12D team produced a scintillating performance against Colfe’s School on Friday afternoon. Great running, offloading and tackling ended in a 10 try to 4 victory.

Under 12E team won 9 – 4. Good running and some strong tackling by Abishnen Arulruban in particular.

U11 played Whitgift School on Friday. Eltham won all three matches.
