Eltham College Scholars Programme

What a difference a month makes!

In May the first group of Year 7 scholars battled the elements as they explored the geography of the school estate under the expert guidance of School Archivist and Geography teacher Mr Andrew Beattie.

As the worksheets blew in the wind and shelter was sought under a tree, the pupils worked on identifying what clouds were visible above them.

Yesterday, when they looked upwards they were greeted with white fluffy clouds against a brilliant blue background, and the River Quaggy which had been a virtual torrent a few weeks ago was now a sedate trickle.

What a difference; but perhaps more importantly than the fact that the weather had changed was that both experiences were equally valid and instructive. As Mr Beattie reminded the pupils, interesting geography is on our doorstep not always a plane journey away.
