Over the last three weeks, students from Year 7 – 10 have been participating in various athletics meets and competitions for the school.
The first competition was the Lee Valley Outdoor Schools Cup where students in Year 10 participated. A tough event which showcases some of the best athletic talents in the London and Essex Regions, our students represented the school brilliantly. Charles N was a standout performer achieving a time of 23.40, which was second overall in the 200m, to the overall winner who set a new Competition record.
This was followed by the Cambridge cup for boys in Year 7 and 8. It was the first opportunity for boys in their first year of the Senior School represent in Athletics. Several boys showcased themselves, but special mentions must go to Year 7 students, Edward C who came second in the High Jump, Kola O who won the 100m and Alex Bush who came third in the discus. Year 8 students, Jamie S and Harry B who came first and second in the 800m and Dominic W, who came second in the long jump.
Our last meet of the half term was the Greenwich trials where students from Year 8 – 10 attempted to achieve times, distances and heights for them to be selected for the borough. Again, it was great to see such a good turnout from students. Oliver A produced a new Personal Best in the high jump, Reuben C won in the hurdles, Ethan F won his 800m and Charles N his 200m. Additionally, it was very pleasing to see several Eltham College students finish in the top three in events across the board.
This has been a hectic three weeks, but all students who have participated have done so to the best of their ability. Well done!
