On Wednesday, 30 January two Eltham College teams travelled to Wilson’s School to play in the regional qualifier for the National Schools Rapid Chess. The B’s were taught some harsh realities about the pressures of competitive chess, but nevertheless played with good spirit winning one and drawing one out of four matches. Heading into the last round the A’s were level on points with the host team. After an eventful series of matches [culminating in a steward’s enquiry amidst allegations of irregularities – Editor!], it was the Eltham Team that was declared victorious and thus the qualifiers for the National Finals in April.
MVP’s – Freddy for the A’s; Ruilin for the B’s both scoring 3.5 points out of 4.
