Eltham College is pleased to announce our School Librarian Caroline Roache has co-written her first book Creating a School Library with Impact: A Beginners Guide. This is an introductory manual for anyone entering or looking to enter the exciting world of school librarianship in primary or secondary school settings. It provides readers with everything they need to know, providing an invaluable guide to those first few years in the role.
Caroline comments-
As Chair of the CILIP School Libraries Group, representing school librarians on a national level, I decided that, with all the years of experience on the committee, we should write a book – and specifically a beginner’s guide for those starting out in our profession.  We were increasingly aware of schools not appointing people with any experience and that we were being asked questions on social media from people who were struggling.
This book was written to address those issues – and to skill beginners up to a professional level.  Indeed the last chapter – written by me – is about how to obtain professional qualifications.  My fellow writers are all now – or are now retired -school librarians, apart from Annie Everall who runs an Author Agency and was best placed to write the chapter on reading enrichment.
I am immensely proud of my team, all of whom wrote this whilst doing a full time job.  As I step down as Chair in December, this is my legacy to the profession I love.
