Despite some wet weather last week there was plenty of cricket taking place including a Saturday block fixture against St Lawrence College. The week began with the annual fixture between a Staff XI and an Upper Sixth Leavers XI as Mr Grinstead scored an unbeaten 50 to lead the teachers to victory!
The 1st XI has had a tough start to the season and after fixtures vs Reigate for the 1st and 2nd XI were rained off last Wednesday an under strength side were soundly beaten by St Lawrence on Saturday.
The Under 15s travelled down to St Lawrence on Saturday afternoon and although the As had their winning start to the season ended the Bs picked up a great win. The A team fielded first, and although they stuck at it against a strong team some late hitting got St Lawrence to 194-2. In reply, Eltham found it difficult against some excellent spin bowling before a good innings of 44 from Charlie R supported by Alex C (25 not out) got the side to 131-7. The Bs restricted St Lawrence to 113-6 from 20 overs, and some excellent batting from Will (33) and Max (28) put us on course before Alejandro hit two 6s in his 18 not out to secure victory.
The Under 14s somehow got their Kent Cup 2nd round fixture in against Chislehurst and Sidcup last Thursday despite the regular rain showers. Shortening the match to just ten overs, Eltham bowled first and kept Chis and Sid to 61 in their ten overs before Aditya and Ethan led our reply brilliantly. Aditya hit a six to win the match and go to his 50 off just 21 balls. Then on Saturday, the As had a superb win against St Lawrence as fantastic all-round bowling and fielding display left us chasing 81 to win. Frank and Ethan took early wickets and after some good hitting from the opposition middle order David B picked up three wickets including two stunning diving catches from Freddie. Blue and Ethan put on 50 for the first wicket, and although there was a collapse, Freddie and Harry R saw the side home to win by three wickets. A special mention to Under 12 Alex B who came straight off the coach from his morning game to bat and bowl for the 14As too! The Bs couldn’t follow up their superb win at The Judd School two weeks ago as the St Lawrence openers took the game away from us putting on over 100 for the first wicket. Tom S and Chris bowled tightly, and some excellent fielding meant we needed 156 to win. Chris top scored in reply, but Eltham was bowled out in the final over for 100.
The Under 13As got their season off and running with a great win against St Lawrence. Akhil was the top performer scoring 65 in our total of 122-8 before he also picked up a couple of wickets as a fantastic team display led us to a 63 run win. The Under 13Bs bowled St Lawrence out for 79 with Dan, Lysander and Boris taking two wickets each before Adem scored 24 not out to lead the side to victory.
The Under 12As won in their Kent Cup first round match against Dartford GS last Tuesday as Akhil took five wickets to restrict the opposition to 111-8 in 20 overs. Despite some early wickets, Alex led the side home with some sensible batting. The side then put in an excellent performance on Saturday morning against St Lawrence as Aaron and Ed batted well in our total of 126-6 before Zach was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets, in our 80 run victory.
