Cricket Report – 30 April 2018

Although the wet weather on Friday and Saturday led to the postponement of the majority of our block fixture with Colfe’s this weekend, there was still plenty of cricket played earlier in the week.

The Under 12s progressed in the Kent Cup last Wednesday following a 9 wicket win against Bexley Grammar School. Matthew Chick starred with the ball taking a hat-trick as Bexley scored just 48. In reply, Max Dugard and Jacob McCarthy batted well to secure the victory.

The Under 13B and C team got games in against Colfe’s last Monday, and both ran out comfortable winners. Finn Madden-McLaren took three wickets for the Bs while Saul Cogswell took 4 in the C team match.

The Under 14B team remain unbeaten with a convincing 100 run win over Colfe’s on Tuesday. Captain Max Milliner top scored with 31 while Tristan Wijewickrama was the stand out bowler.

The Under 15A and B team travelled to Sevenoaks last Tuesday to kick off their league campaign. Our Under 14s, 15s, 2nd XI and 1st XI are competing in a league this summer with other local schools: Sevenoaks, Judd, Reigate, Sutton Valence and King’s Canterbury. In cold and wet conditions both matches were reduced to 15 overs, but Eltham came out on top playing some excellent cricket. In the A team Alex Gallo took 3 wickets as Sevenoaks scored 92 before Joe Bilsby (42 not out) and Rikin Parikh (26 not out) led the side to a 9 wicket victory. The B team got a good win by 7 wickets with James Jamieson taking 2 wickets and Jack Devonshire, Matthew Coleman and Cameron Slatter all batting well. The Bs also played on Thursday against Colfe’s and secured a 70 run win with Sulaiman Ullah top scoring with 45 while Louis Ayin-Walsh was the pick of the bowlers.

Although both the 2nd XI Saturday matches have been cancelled the side were able to get two Twenty20 league matches in last week against Sevenoaks and Judd. The Sevenoaks game was a thriller going down to the final ball as Ollie Greenhead and Varun Singh managed a single to tie the scores. Varun batted excellently for 37 not out as Toby Baldwin also hit a quickfire 20. The following day, Varun and Jack French both batted well as Eltham scored 106 against Judd but after good opening spells from Ahsan Siddiqui and Elliott LeHane the side missed some chances as Judd batted well to win the match.

There is another busy week of cricket ahead with cup matches for all age groups and a block fixture against The Judd School. Here’s hoping for some improved weather!
