Cricket Report – 8 May 2018

Despite some wet weather early last week and several postponements it was still a busy week of Senior School cricket.

The 1st XI team put in a superb performance against The Judd School on Saturday winning comfortably by 9 wickets. Winning the toss and fielding first Nico Murlowski took a wicket with his first delivery, but Judd then built a good partnership. Ben Day struck just before the drinks break following a good catch by Archie Langley before Tom Gallo entered the attack and took two key wickets in his first over. This led to a dramatic collapse as Tom finished with 5-14 and Nico and Owen Davies also took late wickets as Judd were dismissed for just 83. Captain Sam Smith looked in a hurry in reply as he punished some loose deliveries early on before some excellent clean hitting allowed him to reach 59 not out in just 38 balls. Arran Khanna shared in an opening stand of 50 with Sam before he was dismissed, but this brought Nico to the crease who hit two fours and a six to win the match. An excellent team performance as the side prepares for a busy week including their T20 Cup fixture with KCS Wimbledon on Tuesday.

The Under 15A team won in the Kent Cup second round on Thursday by 10 wickets away at Bexley Grammar School and in the Kent Cup third round on Saturday by 7 wickets at home to Judd. These were two excellent performances with James Lambton taking 4 wickets against Bexley while captain Joe Bilsby scored 37 not out to lead the side to victory against The Judd School.

The Under 14A team won their Kent Cup second round fixture against Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School last Tuesday afternoon by 21 runs. Under 13 Captain Aditya Kumar was the star performer scoring 67 as Eltham posted 118 in 20 overs before Matthew Arman was the pick of the bowlers with 2-13 from 4 overs. Saturday’s fixture against The Judd School was far tougher with several players missing but again well done to Under 13 players, Blue Collard, Frank Caldwell, Ethan Fiore and Theo Austin who all stepped up an age group and performed admirably. The A team started their innings well with Charlie Smith and Blue but fell away before Alex Clout’s excellent late hitting helped them pass 100. Ethan took a couple of wickets in reply, but Judd ended up winning by 6 wickets. The Bs unbeaten start to the season also ended at Judd as poor batting cost the side on this occasion.

The Under 12As, Bs and Cs all travelled to The Judd School last Friday, and we had some excellent matches in the sun. The A team faced fierce opposition and although they stuck at it in the field and with the bat were 40 runs short chasing 130. Charlie Dykes was the stand out performer. The Bs had a very close game but lost by 7 runs as some excellent late hitting by Jamie Sears, and Hector Salter couldn’t quite get the side over the line. Dylan Dreyer and Alex Presland had also batted well. The C team did secure a fantastic victory by 6 wickets as Erik Peters starred with the ball taking 3 wickets and Maxence Augier-de-Cremiers, Akeel Majeed and Max Jeffrey all batted brilliantly to give Eltham the win.
