Cross Country Report – Greenwich Schools Cross Country Championship

On Wednesday 16 October Eltham College cross country runners were in action at the local Greenwich Schools Cross Country championship, held at Avery Hill Park. The championship consisted of two races, which saw our Year 7 and 8 teams run together, as well as our Year 9 and 10 teams.

Captain Olly led the way for the Year 7 team followed in by Sam, with the pair collecting the gold and silver medals respectively. Olly must be commended for his outstanding run, which saw him beat not only every Year 7 but every Year 8 by quite a distance. Ed and Daanish also raced superbly well finishing 8th and 26th. Our combined scores from this race meant that the team won the overall Year 7 team trophy!

Year 8 runners put in a good showing with Harry C and Alex B finishing within two places of each other in 10th and 12th respectively.

The Year 9 team, led by Theo, made light work of the competition collecting a very impressive low total score of 16. Another gold and silver for Theo and Harry B, 6th and 7th finish for Max and Dylan and a 15th place finish for Lysander meant we took home another trophy.

With only two runners in the Year 10 category there wouldn’t be another trophy for us however there was a chance for Ethan to show everyone what he could do, as he took the gold medal by a distance. Reuben also finished in a very respectable 16th place.

A wonderfully successful days racing for the College, which has seen a number of our students get invited to represent Greenwich at the London Youth Games.
