Eltham College students achieve “stellar” A Level results

We’re pleased to announce that students at Eltham College are today celebrating an excellent set of A Level results and places secured at leading universities.

Of all A Level grades awarded to Eltham College students, 72% were A* and 92% were either A*/ A.  Just over 50% of Eltham College students achieved at least A*A*A* and one in 8 students achieved four 4 A* grades.  Over 83% of students achieved at least AAA grades.

94% of Eltham students secured their first-choice university with students set to study a wide range of subjects including Architecture, Biochemistry, Business, Economics, Engineering, English, Geography, History, Law, Mathematics, Medicine, Natural Sciences, Politics, Philosophy, and Psychology.

Eltham College students have secured places at top British universities including: Cambridge, Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Durham, Exeter, London (Imperial College, King’s College, London School of Economics, Queen Mary, Royal Holloway), Loughborough, Nottingham, and Warwick.  Two students are heading to American universities to read Economics – one to Berkeley (University of California) and one to North Western University, Illinois.  Reflecting the strength of Eltham’s co-curricular provision, one Eltham student is heading to leading music conservatoire, Trinity College of Music in London, while another is taking up a place at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance.

Seven students have secured confirmed places this autumn at leading medical schools – giving a total of 27 Eltham students going on to study Medicine since 2018.  The dedicated medicine pathway at Eltham College provides students with a weekly group seminar to investigate and discuss a range of clinical and ethical issues right from the early stages of the Lower Sixth through to the culmination of their interviews in the Upper Sixth. It dovetails with the school’s Community Service programme, with prospective medics volunteering at local care homes to broaden their experience.

In addition, five students will read Law at a range of universities.  Eltham College enhances their preparation for this degree subject with a 6th Form programme that includes attending Law Society events and additional seminars in legal matters.   Other popular degree courses include Engineering, Economics, and Modern Languages.

Head Boy, Aryan Gupta, who achieved four A*s and will go to Oxford University to read General Engineering, said: “After 13 years at Eltham College, I can’t thank everyone enough for all they have done for me in my time at this school.  It’s the combination of high-quality teaching, the support from the Sixth Form team, and the desire of all students here to do well that has spurred me on to do well and achieve the grades I needed.  I’m really looking forward to the challenge of university but I’m also going to miss Eltham”.

Anya Pearson, Head Girl, who achieved three A*s and will read Combined Studies in Social Sciences at the University of Durham: “While it has been a difficult 18 months for everyone studying for their A Levels, it is an absolute relief to know that the hard work that my fellow students and I put in has enabled us to achieve a stellar set of results.

“Eltham College has helped me to achieve my goals in securing a place at a great university and I am so grateful for all the support I have had over the last two years, both in-person and remotely!”

Guy Sanderson, Headmaster of Eltham College, said: “The past year has been a challenging time for all schools, but we are so proud of the achievements of our students at Eltham College.   They have demonstrated huge amounts of resilience and tenacity in the face of months of disrupted learning caused by the pandemic.  They deserve full credit and praise for the hard work they have put in and we wish them every success as they move to the next stage of their lives.”
