Gerald Moore Gallery
The Gerald Moore Gallery is a centre for modern and contemporary art based on site at Eltham College. The Gallery focuses on collaborative practice and shared learning and aims to allow everyone the freedom and support to learn. They help children, young people and adults to explore what art can be – supporting the importance of art in schools and beyond, through collaboration and learning.
College Meadow Pavilion
The College is surrounded by 70 acres of grounds including rugby pitches, and cricket squares, a floodlit all-weather hockey pitch and rugby training area, multi-use games area, tennis courts and cricket nets.
Mervyn Peake Library
The Mervyn Peake Library is at the heart of the College and is a space for students to read, work on computers, use books for information gathering, work alone or collaboratively, revise, or use the wireless for their own devices. During lesson times the Library is used in many different ways. There is a silent study area for the Sixth Form to work on the top floor, a computer area where group work also takes place, and a reading area on the bottom floor where students are brought in for reading lessons and choosing books. The Librarian is available for help and consultation on a range of subjects from which books to read next to which resources to choose for your essay.During break and lunch time, however, the library is a buzzing hub of activity, with students working, revising, choosing books and reading. The library also opens before and after school as well for students to work in.
We seek to enable students to access the curriculum by providing resources in the form of books, eBooks, online encyclopaedias, journals, and magazines. Reading for pleasure is also extensively catered for, with a large fiction library for the Sixth Form upstairs, and the rest of the College downstairs. We have steadily built a good selection of ebooks, both fiction and non-fiction, which allows students to access resources on a 24-hour basis; thus allowing resources to be available whenever, and wherever the student needs to access them. The resources are available on their computers, netbooks, tablets or phones. During the Covid-19 crisis of 2020, this facility proved of especial benefit to our students.
The Library Catalogue is also now accessible online and via an app so that students can quickly find out if the resources they need are held in the library, and if so, reserve them to pick up at their convenience. In addition, there are several online encyclopaedias and databases which are accessible to students inside or outside of the College via this website.
Mrs Roche, in collaboration with the English Department, invites authors, poets, illustrators and other relevant guests to visit the College throughout the year to speak to both Junior and Senior School students.
The Library also provides a Virtual Library of additional resources for current students and parents which includes eBooks, Journals, Encyclopaedia Britannica, and the Library Catalogue. An Oxbridge reading list is published yearly in collaboration with Heads of Department.
