Hockey Report – 15 January 2018

Over the weekend Eltham College played a series of tough games against a strong set of Alleyn’s hockey teams. Alleyn’s were dominant in the U11 age group winning both games 6-2 (U11A) and 5-0 (U11B) respectively. The U12s however managed to turn it around winning all three of their games, with the U12A’s winning by a large margin of 7-2, with goals from Jamie Sears (2), Dom Wade (2), Charlie Dykes (2) and Matthew Chick (1). The U12B’s won 2-0 with goals from Maxence and Bowler with a strong defensive showing from Boris Jones and Max Murray. Lastly the U12C’s won 2-1, managing to seal the win with a last minute goal.

The U13 age group was a mixed barrel of results with the U13A and U13B losing both of their games 13-3 and 4-3 respectively against two very strong Alleyn’s sides. The U13C however managed to win their game 4-3 after some seriously committed efforts from the Eltham boys.

The U14A side won 4-2, the boys played superbly well for the first 40 minutes going 4-0 up with a hat trick from Josh Hutchings. As they started to tire, Alleyn’s fought back and scored twice but Eltham held on for a good win. The U14B suffered a 2-0 loss after what was a well contested game from both teams with Alleyn’s managing to get the result, credit goes to the Eltham boys for fighting to the end.

The U15 age group were unbeaten with the U15A winning 6-1 vs Kent College during the week with goals coming from Jagger (2), Roberts, Slatter (2) and Mirchandani, and then held off Alleyns for a 2-2 draw in what was a closely fought game. The U15B’s had a well-deserved 1-0 win after a closely contested match in which both teams showed really good playing ability.

The U18B’s suffered a 3-1 loss in a closely fought match. Both teams had their fair share of the ball with plenty of chances to score at both ends. Tom Macallan in goal for Eltham made some good saves but was eventually beaten from a short corner. Harry Southgate equalled the score with a penalty flick after James Ward had been brought down by the keeper. In a rare attack by Alleyns, an excellent shot managed to beat Tom Macallan to give Alleyns a 2-1 lead. Eltham continued to create chances but failed to convert them and with a couple of minutes left, Alleyns sealed their victory with another goal from a short corner to give them a 3-1 victory. George White and Jeremy Xiong were excellent in defence for Eltham with Ollie Colegate and Sam Smith prominent in midfield.

The 1st XI game was unfortunately postponed until a later date.
