Hockey Report – 5 February 2018

The 1St XI team had an incredibly busy week. On Wednesday, they lost 3-1 to a superb Portsmouth Grammar School, the boys put in a fantastic effort but the opposition was magnificent. Thursday, saw the boys play in the Frank Mason Festival and they did fantastically well to win the plate, securing the competition with a dramatic penalty shootout. On Friday, the boys worked extremely hard in a 2-1 loss to Dulwich College but they can all be very proud of how they performed given the vast amount of hockey played in the previous two days.

The 2nd XI team suffered a disappointing defeat in a poor performance against a strong Dulwich College team. Dulwich dominated the match from start to finish and opened the scoring in the second minute of the game. Eltham had no answer to their speed and accurate passing and four more goals before half-time was a just reflection of their superiority. Eltham played with more intensity in the second half and the Dulwich keeper made several good saves but two further goals for Dulwich saw them record a convincing 7-0 victory.

The Under 15A side were involved in a really tight game against a strong Dulwich side. A total of seven goals were scored with Dulwich gaining the upper hand by four goals to three. The Eltham boys worked and fought hard for the entire game and should be proud of the effort they made.
The Under 15B boys had a convincing 3-0 win over a relatively strong Dulwich side. Eltham was the better side on the day, defending valiantly managing to keep a clean sheet. Their clinical attacking display saw them put their chances away to seal the victory.

The Under 14A team cruised to a comfortable 7-0 win against a weak Dulwich team. The team did play some nice hockey in patches and they also scored some nice team goals. The team will need to improve though when they play stronger sides.

The Under 13A team managed to edge out Dulwich College 2-1 in what was a closely fought game which could have gone either way. Both teams played really well and Eltham should be very proud of their victory.

The Under 13B boys started their game off on fire going 2-0 up in the first half. Unfortunately, they lost their momentum in the second half, conceding two goals in quick succession, Dulwich College then won the game in the last few minutes.

The Under 13C team were involved in a nine goal thriller with both teams having plenty of chances but Dulwich College managed to put more of theirs away scoring six goals to Eltham’s three. Credit to both teams for putting on an exciting encounter.
