Lift off for Eltham College as students win prestigious Space Competition

Congratulations to five of our Eltham College Upper Sixth Form students, including, Charlie, Nathaniel, Kyle and Louis for being selected as part of the winning team to represent the UK in the prestigious 2021 International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) due to take place later this year.  The International finals are due to be held later this year in Houston, Texas, although the arrangements are subject to confirmation (due to Covid-19 restrictions).

The Eltham College team had successfully been one of the winning teams in the UK Space Design Competition, usually held at Imperial College London in March, which had to take place remotely this year due to Covid-19 restrictions.  The team consisted of the above Upper Sixth Form students and included Hanoj, Sam, Jim, Vanya, Akash and Hashir from the Lower Sixth.  They worked with teams from three other schools with a brief of designing a settlement on Venus in the year 2071. A company President was selected and together the team secured their second successive National Final victory in two years with their winning Kepler Automation presentation, which can be read here.

Guy Sanderson, Headmaster, said: “We’re so proud of our 11 students in winning this hotly contested and highly-prestigious competition in the UK that demonstrates their skill, knowledge and commitment as well as the care and dedication of their Science teachers here at Eltham College.  We now wish them every success in the upcoming international final of the ISSDC where they will represent not only their school but their country.”
