With the second half of Michaelmas Term now fully under way, we met with the new Head Prefect team from the Junior School, Aadi, Sebastian and Johnny. The Year 6 students discuss what the role means to them, their new responsibilities and where they see themselves in 20 years’ time.
2. How did you feel when you found out you had been chosen Head Boy/ Deputy Head?
Aadi – To be honest, I was secretly hoping to be part of Prefect Team since the time I joined Eltham college. I was pleasantly surprised and felt very honoured that I was chosen to be the Co Deputy Head Boy.
Johnny – Yes I was the same as it is something that I have wanted since I was in Year 3 and I was really proud of myself when I took on the role.
Sebastian – I felt thrilled that I had been chosen to have such a big role and it means a lot to me too.
2. Why do you think you were selected?
Aadi – I believe that I was selected for my academic performance at school, my varied interests in games, and, my fair and kind attitude toward my peers at school.
Sebastian – I am very passionate about the school and love getting involved in everything it has to offer which I believe are some of the reasons I was selected.
Johnny – I think I was selected for similar reasons, I am diligent and hardworking and love to throw myself into everything.
3. How have you settled into your new roles so far?
Sebastian – We have already given one speech at the first open morning and I think it went very well. I thoroughly enjoyed working as a team with my two other colleagues, Aadi and Johnny.
4. What responsibilities do the Prefect team have?
Johnny – Being part of the prefect team means we have a responsibility to set a good example to all of the other students in the school, to help the staff and students where they can, and to participate fully in all school activities.
Aadi -It involves a variety of roles including such as being the pupil’s voice, representing their houses, speaking at house assemblies, saying prayers in chapel, motivating everyone, and leading by example by being good students.
Sebastian – We need to be great advocates for the school, we help with open mornings and Prize Givings, and we are role models to the younger students.
5. What are you most looking forward to about the role and the year ahead?
Sebastian – I am really looking forward to representing the Junior School at the open morning this Saturday (12 November) and celebrating everyone’s successes at the Prize Giving.
Aadi – I’m also really looking forward to this year’s prizegiving ceremony speech when the whole Junior School, family, and parents are gathered under one roof.
Johnny – Yes and I’m looking forward to representing the school in sports and going on our trip to France as well!
6. When did you join the Junior School and what were your first impressions?
Johnny – I joined the Junior School in Year 3 and I soon made some great friends and discovered the fantastic clubs Eltham has to offer.
Aadi – I joined in Year 4 in the year 2020. As I walked towards the school crossing the playing fields, I felt the school was very majestic though I had a warm fuzzy feeling about how would I be able to navigate, and what if I get lost. As soon as I entered the school, I was made to feel at home by all the staff and my buddies. Thanks to Mr. Laubach who helped me settle down.
Sebastian – I also joined in January during Year 4. Even though I joined during lockdown, my peers and teachers gave me such a warm welcome and made me feel so at home that I instantly had a fantastic first impression of the school. When I finally got to go into the Junior School, I was amazed by the kindness of the teachers and pupils, by the size of the fields, and by the general layout of the school.
7. What is the best thing about Eltham College Junior School?
Aadi – The best thing in Eltham College is probably the teachers. They are friendly, funny, and always ready to help if we go to them with any problems however difficult it be.
Johnny – I think the best thing about Eltham college is the sport because everyone is involved no matter how much they play or have even played they still get loads of opportunities to have fun. I also think the music is fabulous and I am in some great bands.
Sebastian – For me, it is the fact that it is such a great community and that everyone gets along so well.
8. How would you describe yourself?
Sebastian – I would describe myself as excitable, energetic, imaginative and eager to learn.
Aadi – I would describe myself as kind, polite, academic, and hardworking.
Johnny – I would describe myself as kind, enthusiastic and helpful. I love learning new things and playing lots of different sports with my friends.
9. Where do you see yourself in 20 years’ time?
Johnny – I see myself having been to a good university and playing professional rugby for a club or even my country.
Aadi – I see myself as a Mi5 intelligence officer, a nuclear physicist, or a space scientist.
Sebastian – I see myself as a famous author traveling the world!
