Eltham College Junior School Music

Eltham College Junior School Music

We have a strong heritage of Music at Eltham College which starts in the Junior School and progresses up to 6th Form with about 70% of pupils learning at least one instrument.

One of the musical highlights of the year is our Concert for St. Cecilia for our more advanced soloists to perform.

Individual lessons

Some pupils join us who are already learning instruments and they join ensembles relevant to their instrument and level.

Other pupils join us who have never had the opportunity to learn an instrument. These pupils benefit from our MUSIC ALIVE programme for complete beginners.

In Year 3, the MUSIC ALIVE programme gives pupils the chance to have free lessons on a stringed instrument (violin, viola, cello, double bass or harp) and be a part of a String ensemble as well as having individual lessons. After the trial period of about a month, pupils wishing to take up their instrument continue to benefit from free instrument hire for the remainder of that academic year whilst paying for lessons beyond the trial period. Those who wish to discontinue can do so with no obligation.

In Year 4, the MUSIC ALIVE programme gives pupils the chance to learn a Brass or Woodwind instrument in the same way as above.

Each Lent term we hold an Inter House Music Competition which is open to all pupils learning an instrument, either at School or privately.

Visiting Music Teachers (VMTs) come to Eltham College each week to give individual music lessons. Please click below to see the list of our Visiting Music Teachers.
