Congratulations to Eltham College Sixth Form students, Louis, Liam, Charlie and Nathaniel, for being part of the winning team in the 2020 International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC).
The finals for the 27th Annual International Space Settlement Design Competition took place virtually from the 24 –27 July, from the Kennedy Space Centre, Houston, Texas. The winning company Rockdonnell Aerospace included Eltham College Sixth Form students, and students from St Olaves Grammar School (UK), Raisbeck Aviation High School (America), Amity International School Noida (India) and Caringbah High School (Australia).
The Eltham College students had successfully been one of the winning teams of the UK competition held at Imperial College earlier in the year and were due to travel to Houston to take part in the international finals. However, with travel restrictions in place around the globe the students were unable to travel to the Kennedy Space Centre. They worked together instead, with the students from the other counties virtually for over 70 hours, to design a space settlement on Mars, and their hard work paid off! Their proposal Argonom and the Quest for a Golden Future, received the judges final vote over the other three entries.
