Thomas receives Hockey Writers’ Club U16 award

Thomas (Year 9) has played hockey for Blackheath and Elthamians Hockey Club since the age of eight. Over the past few years, not only has Thomas played the sport, he has volunteered by coaching and umpiring students at the Junior School and in Year 7, as well as at the hockey club. His commitment to hockey has been strongly recognised and supported by Mr Thorogood, who nominated Thomas for the Hockey Writers’ Club U16 award in the junior category. While on holiday in Barcelona over the Christmas holidays, Thomas found out he had won the award. Starting the year with a bang, Thomas attended the Hockey Writers’ Club lunch on Wednesday 15 January to receive his well-earned award.

Reflecting on his achievement, Thomas feels “proud and determined to carry on.” Thomas plans to complete the Level 1 Umpire course when he turns 14 in August this year.
