Triathlon Triumph for Junior School team

On Sunday 22nd April, four of us from Year 3 (Matias Caceres, Frans -Louis Van Schalkwyk, Robert Welensky and Barney Cox) competed in the 2018 Royal Russell Schools Triathlon. Our team name was “Fiery Dragons” and we came in first place out of 75 teams of Year 3 and 4 students. We and the other teams found it a bit hard. Due to poor weather conditions in March, we couldn’t practice a lot.

After a wobbly start our team managed to finish 2nd in the 50m swimming event. All team members did very well but Matias and Robert made the difference. Robert’s backstroke style was awesome!

We then moved to the 1k bike race. Once again, the team was on top form with Frans-Louis and Matias recording the fastest times.

The last stage was a 750m race and this time Frans-Louis and Barney were the fastest runners.

We all had such a fun day and enjoyed our very first triathlon. This day was made even more special when we learnt that we had won! We run in our Eltham College games kit which many parents recognised and liked so it made us feel very proud of representing the school.
