U14 Hockey team at Kent Finals Day

Following an impressive quarter final performance, an energetic Eltham College U14 side arrived at Kent Finals Day full of optimism. Eltham was drawn against a strong Kent College side in the semi-final, who they should have played a few weeks before if it weren’t for a frozen AstroTurf. Eltham started the game at break neck speed, quickly scoring through Jacob before the game settled and Kent College began to threaten Eltham on the break. Thomas scored an unusual goal from a near to impossible angle, allowing Eltham to take control of the fixture. Further goals from Akhil and captain Jamie gave Eltham a 4-0 half time lead, before second half goals for Max and a second for Thomas saw the game finish 6-0.

After a long break, Eltham stepped into the final against Langley Park School for Boys, and led 1-0 after just 30 seconds, following a fantastic individual effort from Jamie. Momentum quickly shifted in Langley’s favour as Eltham struggled to break down their opponents’ high press. With just a few minutes left on the clock and the score at 2-1 to Langley, another impressive run and strike from Jamie forced the game to penalty flicks. Despite all of Eltham’s effort and commitment, the team came unstuck during the shootout, losing 5-4 on penalties.
