Year 8 Scholars – look at the world of tropical fish!

The Year 8 Scholars enjoyed their first peer-led session of the year as Year 13 student Gavril held a session about the world of tropical fish and the techniques being used to ensure their mass reproduction.

Gavril talked about the science behind the various methods, many chemically based, to meet an economically driven demand for certain species of fish. Gavril discussed the negative side effects of these methods in terms of the behaviour of fish and the effects on the environment. The students had many questions and the debate also steered into other related areas: with a reference back to their discussion about Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein earlier in the year and the link to various ethical issues recently covered in Religious Studies.
